My First Deer Spotting

The above photo is my first deer I spotted since our arrival on Sunday.  Now that we are here, I'm happy to be here.  I get a lot of Spiritual strength just by being here.  There is something about the area.  And I'm not sure what it is but a lot of people derive Spiritual strength just by being here.  I love to sit on the deck in the mornings and just listen, but this morning as I am writing this there are a lot more flies that I remember.

I might have breakfast here on the deck and I'll drink my coffee and write, as I am this morning, and just listen.  It's not that I can't be just as Spiritual in Florida.  There are fewer distractions here.  Maybe except for the flies buzzing around.  The sounds of nature are different sounds.  I can hear a woodpecker in the distance.  The birds aren't the same song birds as in Florida, but there are far less human made noises here.

On morning in March a couole of years ago, we counted 21 deer in our front yard.  There is just something special not just about the house, but the area up here.  We're more isolated from civilization here.  Some days it rains here and I'm not as sheltered here on the deck as I am on the lanai.  There are a lot more insects here.  I have to contend with nature here more.  Not only are there flies, but bees, wasps, and the occassiinal hornet.  At night there are more mosquitos.  I have to be more careful about letting insects in the house.

There are chickens and a rooster next door.   And the occassiinal car goes by.  Deer are always in season here.  I have killed one deer in my life and vowed I'd never do that again.  As a side-note I wrote not long ago about baseball season and when we arrived at our house here, we had to walk through the garage.  And what did I find?  My old ball glove with the softball still inside.  I showed it to my wife who said I can take that back to Florida with us.  Apart from my first pipe and some old vinyl records, it might be the oldest thing I still possess.

There are a few memories we have of this house.  I can remember quite well my 70th birthday we celebrated here.  My wife threw a big birthday party here and we grilled on the grill and swam in the pool.  It was the best 70th birthday I could have had.  We weren't here long, but this house holds a special place for us.  I'm not sure how much traveling my wife can do, but hopefully this isn't our last visit here.  We may not stay as long as we first thought we might, but we have scheduled no return as of yet.

We're just getting settled in right now.  We see our old furnishings and I have my reproduction of the finger of God up on the wall still.  There are things here left from our house in Columbus.  Some of it we miss, but glad it's here.  Things are rearranged, but the memories are still here like our grandfather's clock my father made for us as a wedding gift.  I replaced the works with battery works, but it's still here.

It's just nice being here.  I just wasn't sure I wanted to be here for two months, but we'll take it a day at a time.  It's nice being here.  Today it is my Nording Number 3 pipe with some Haunted Bookshop.  And my coffee this morning is Classico Gourmet coffee.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
