Two Old Men
I think I have now found my two favorite English tobaccos, with Old Professor being number one and Haunted Bookshop being number two. Old Professor has never been in the top 100 list on Smoking Pipes, but while I can't feel totally responsible for it happening, it has now moved up to make that list. It deserves to be there. But of all the English tobaccos I have smoked that is the one my wife hates the most.
But that isn't why I like it. Old Professor is Old School, pardon the pun, English tobacco. It's not the name or that it evolks memories of the old professor smoking a pipe in his office, but just that it is what a good English tobacco should be. It does evoke memories of English tobaccos back in the day. A lot of pipe smokers smoked Captain Black or Prince Albert, but whenever a pipe smoker would smoke English tobaccos it seems Old Professor nails it perfectly. It is what a good English tobacco should be.
Haunted Bookshop says it all. If there was one who was a proprietor of an old bookshop and smoked a pipe, this would have been his tobacco of choice. While Old Professor might evoke memories of wood panelled offices with overstuffed leather chairs, Haunted Bookshop evolks memories of old books on dusty shelves just begging to be read. Both of these English tobaccos have names that evolk those kinds of memories. I'm old enough to know those aromas.
But both these tobaccos seem to me to be what good English tobaccos should be. So, both of these are on my favorite English tobaccos list. As for Aromatics, I got kind of burned out on Autumn Evening and now have found Lane 1-Q and Captin Black Original as my two favorite Aromatic tobaccos. Once in awhile I'll buy a tin of Captain Black Cherry or will enjoy most any Cherry Aromatic. But these two are now my favorite Aromatic tobaccos.
When I place an order now, I might order a small quantity of something I've never had before. But these days now that I have sampled so many I have found what I like. I'll try most anything even if it has bad reviews. But I hate to waste money on something just to try. So, I'd like to always have my favorites on hand. It's taken a long time for me to find my favorite pipe tobaccos. I usually can't tell after a bowl or two in the same pipe. It took a long time for me to say these four are my favorites. I had to do a lot of comparing. These four are available in bulk with a price of around $2.50 an ounce plus shipping.
But Old Professor was one I knew the very first bowl. It took a few orders of Haunted Bookshop for me to say it has become a favorite. But with every order now will be any combination of these four, plus a sampling of something I haven't had. This is how I make my order these days. I love to sample. My next tobacco order will have the two English plus a couple of ounces of Aged Maduro Cavendish which is supposed to have a very nice aroma. It is a Chocolate Vanilla Black Cavendish. Every pipe smoker should be open to try most any good tobacco. Today it is my Nordung Number 2 pipe with Lane 1-Q and my coffee this morning is the American Black Rifle Pumpkin Spice Headless Horseman coffee. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
