About Those Voices
Do I hear voices? No. I have thoughts. I'm not sure I believe everyone who says God told them this or that. It depends greatly on what this or that is. Blessings aren't about the material in life, but the Spiritual. We can be blessed just by being alive. We are blessed by the people in our lives. But I'm just not sure God is always saying to others to do this or that. We might do this or that for family. We might do this or that for material wealth. I'm just not sure God tells people what to do or not do.
Much of what we do is guesswork. Everyone has a built-in kind of common sense. God has never told me to give money to this or that preacher because he asks for it. Or he says God told him he needs a mansion to live in. God told me I need a mansion, but I don't have one. I could say God told me I need a plane, but I don't have one. In fact God tells preachers a lot of things He's never told me.
Why should He tell them? What voices are they listening to? Probably their own! If God worked the way they say He does, we'd all be rich living in mansions and owning planes! Our faith is too small they say. No. They know how to work the system. Otherwise there would be no poverty. The Church is the best social system there is. What do these preachers do to get money? They ask for it. Plain and simple.
Are they in their prayer closets asking God? No. They're asking the people. You know what God says to me? Don't worry about it. So, I don't. Or try not to. Some things I'll worry about anyway. And if I get TOO stressed it's time to meditate and lower my blood pressure. Some might play a round of golf. Some might go for a boat ride or fish. Some might go shopping. Or go to the gym. There are all sorts of ways to deal with stress.
Some people might use their influence and ask for money. There are all kinds of ways to deal with stress. But what about those voices? What DOES God actually say? He tells me not to worry about it. Is that an answer? In a way it is. Any choices we make about anything is our own choice and all we can do is hope we made the right choices. It would be a wrong choice for me to give a preacher money. So, I don't.
I saw a sign that said, If time travel is real, I want my future self to come and say, 'Don't do that.'" If only we knew. Most of what we do are guesses and we hope we guess right. We learn from our mistakes and just go on. This is why living in the now is so important. Otherwise we regret the past and worry about the future. This is why so often God says, Don't worry about it." If I don't hear God saying this, I will worry. And even still I might worry about it anyway if He says not to. My pipe today is my Peterson Sherlock Holmes with my Old Professor and my coffee is Guji Ethiopian coffee. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one you.
