Coffee and Pipes
There is only so much I can say about pipes and pipe tobacco. There are probably ten times more various coffees than there are tobacco blends. If I wrote just about coffee, I might have enough material for the next twenty years or so. Some pipe smokers just have Folgers or Maxwell house every morning with their first bowl of whatever. But my coffee choices depends on what we have and I have a few favorite coffees and I like to grind my own beans.
The problem is cost. Coffee isn't cheap in the way I do it. And some day, I may have to go with Folgers or Maxwell House. But that day hasn't come. I have a sister who is a missionary in Belize. One year for Christmas she gave me a bag of ground Guatamalan coffee. And most any coffee from Guatamala has been a favorite ever since.
I had a friend who loved Blue Mountain Jamaican coffee. He swore by it. Number one, it's very expensive, but number two, it's not the best, in my thinking. Blue Bottle might be among the best, but I've found Stumptown to be among my favorites. But I've discovered a cheap Guatamalan coffee at Sam's Club to be among the finest of most any coffee I have had. They have a two pound bag that sells for about $14. IMO I think it's among the very best I've had.
Price could be a factor in my decision, but it's not. It is just a very good coffee and the price makes it even better. I still might like Stumptown better, but just by a tad. I could name many coffees I have had, but when it comes to pairing a coffee with a pipe tobacco, my favorite combination for that first cup of coffee has to be a good Engkish tobacco. Sitting on the deck here in NY, I've found Old Professor pairs the best for my first bowl of the day.
There is nothing like sitting here on the deck smoking Old Professor with a cup of my generic blend of Guatamalan ground coffee. I prefer the Guatamalan coffee from Sam's Club, but this is a good combination. We are leaving here in about a week and a half, and my wife wanted to make sure I had enough coffee to last until we left. So, we saw this bag at the store and decided to buy it so we'd have enough. It's not quite as good, but still very good coffee.
We haven't had as many deer sightings as we have had in years past, but I just love these cooler NY mornings here on the deck. Drinking my coffee surrounded by trees as I smoke my pipe, just seems to be the best. I listen to the birds and look at the trees and I'm thinking this is the best life can be. Add a good cup of coffee with a pipe of Old Professor and I'm thinking this is the best life has to offer. It just doesn't get any better than this. I'll enjoy this as much as I can until we leave.
Well, those are my thoughts this morning. Now, if we could just keep the bears out of our garbage, but that is a story for another time. I just wonder how many conversations there are at breakfast about bears and garbage. I would guess not many; or maybe more than one might think. It was our topic of conversation this morning. A bear raided our garbage again last night. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
