Just Maybe

Physicists are seriously asking whether the entire universe is in a kind of giant computer simulation or at least that earth is.  One physicist said the odds were one to billions, but it is Neil deGras Tyson who says it's mote like a 50-50 chance we are controlled by some superior being, but he does not say God, but more like an alien race of beings.  But physicists seem to agree the question might be more philosophical or even theological and not for physicists to answer.

I really love the question.  And recently I read about a group of physicists who are exploring the idea.  The human brain is capable of exploring ten trillion thoughts a seconds.  Okay, I have enough problem thinking one thought a minute.  But if you multiply those ten trillion thoughts by about nine billion, well you get the idea that a massive computer or a Master mind has to be some kind of thought machine.

But it all comes down to the golden ratio of 1.618 to one.  Why?  Life is based on the golden ratio.  But why or how?  This is where physics venture into the realm of either theology or philosophy.  Is there a Master Mind for the universe?  And thus physicists are no longer physicists, but are more philosophers or theologians.

Can the question be answered or do we make assumptions like deGras Tyson?  Can we assume there is a 50-50 chance of a Master Mind?  Religion then is like insurance "just in case," as I said yesterday.  I like that physicists get into the realm of Metaphysics to answer the question.  There is so much we want to know and the more we explore ideas, the closer we get to the answers.

But faith is for philosophers and theologians and this is a gap I try to fill with my finite mind.  But is everything physically finite like time?  We are told that in the beginning all matter was reduced to the size of a tennis ball that was heated to trillions of degrees and exploded.  That was the begining, or was it?  Could the universe always been and is infinite?  Again, this might be a philosophical question physicists can't answer.

I love the fact that physicists have taken on the task of determining whether we are in a universe controlled by a Master Mind, but is it a big computer?  Is this all a simulation?  I love the question.  Why?  It opens the door to God, but they don't say it's God.  Maybe a race of aliens instead.  But the door has been opened by minds once closed to the very thought.  But at least now a few respected physicists are exploring the idea.

I'm comfortable with infinity.  I can't explain it with a finite mind even at ten trillion thoughts a second.  I can't fathom that, because I'm not sure I have the mind for it.  It's why I smoke a pipe.  I like to keep things simple.  Life is complicated enough.  Today it is my Peterson Irish Harp pipe with Dave's Special Blend.  My coffee this morning is a special blend from Trader Joe's.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
