Just Right

My wife gave me an ultimatum of sorts.  I can die from either cancer or diabetes.  We went for a check-up with our doctor  yesterday and I am fine.  No worries.  I could have other things wrong, but if I feared dying that would be one thing.  I don't take risks with my life.  According to the death clock for when I was born I have two years left.  As a non- smoker, I do.  But as a smoker I should have died in 2016.  Go figure.  I still don't consider pipe smoking the same as smoking.  But this one isn't about my health, although I suppose it could be.

I received my tobacco order yesterday and everything I ordered arrived as expected.  I put the Lane 1-Q in one humidor and put the Old Professor in another.  I have never had Black Kathy Cavendish before and instead of just dumping it in with my Special Blend, I thought I would smoke a bowl of it.  I read the reviews, which were only six, so it's not a very popular blend.  And I could see why.  It was simply just plain bland.  And I wondered if I wasted ten bucks on it as a blending tobacco.

So, I had about six ounces of Super Value with just an amount of Captain Black Original that shouldn't even count.  Then I added my Haunted Bookshop of about six ounces to the mixture.  I smoked a bowl of Black Kathy before adding the blend.  I was finishing my bowl of the Cavendish as I blended it all together.  Then I looked at the mixture through the acrylic humidor wondering what I had.

I've been to pipe clubs and smoke shops and sampled many one-of-a-kind mixtures.  Some I liked and some I didn't, but the few I liked, I asked about the recipe and too often some guy says he had no idea.  Some just throw a bunch of tobacco blends together and just see.  It was always a guy.  But often I was told that once it was gone that was it.  But I can remember this recipe because it's not too complex.  But adding Black Cavendish is the best thing I could have done.

In a word, it is a great blend.  It is like an English Aromatic.  The Haunted Bookshop flavor is there without the Nicotine hit.  I'm not saying I'm a master blender, but I used what I had and simply made my own blend.  The Cavendish is just what it needed!  If I belonged to a pipe club or could pass it around a pipe shop I would!  I find it to be that good.

So, I now have three blends to choose from.  At almost a year older now, I really could smoke the Old Codger Carter Hall I've never had.  But there are so many new blends out there that are so much better.  At least I tried Black Kathy just by itself, but for my Special Blend it's perfect.  So, this morning it isn't some old codger blend but something new and different.  But I really like it.

And no, I don't have cancer, nor am I dying from diabetes.  For a guy my age I'm not in too bad of shape.  There are Old Codger blends for guys (or gals) like me, but I prefer the new stuff.  I'm smoking my new blend as I write this.  I get the Haunted Bookshop flavor without the nicotine hit.  It's more like an Aromatic, but more like an English Aromatic.  I can do without too much nicotine.  I'm smoking my Dave's Special Blend in my Peterson Ststem pipe.  My coffee this morning is from Trader Joe's.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
