My Beliefs

Do I believe in aliens, Big Foot, and ghosts?  I believe anything is possible, limited only by our imagination.  If we can imagine it anything is possible.  Why do I think this way?  Simple.  Because we can.  But can our imaginations run wild?  Sure they can.  Even movie magic is limited only by imagination.  Who is to say that nothing we imagine can't be real?

But can aliens be either demons or angels?  Sure.  Can ghosts be spirits waitung for the Judgment?  Sure.  Can Big Foot actually exist?  Sure.  Anything can have a logical explanation if we think outside the box.  But many fear the unknown.  I don't.  So, maybe my imagination is just greater.  Or maybe in some cases not great enough.  I used to like to read because of the use of imagination.  I used to hate movies made from books I've read because often the characters portrayed aren't what I imagined them to be.

Stories told in movies aren't always the stories we recall from books.  But with CGI, movies can imagine most anything.  Avatar is a great example with the blue Avatars.  And the Avatar world is an imaginary world.  Movies can take us where we'd love to be.  Or they can frighten us to the point where we just have say to ourselves that it's just a movie.

Spirits can frighten us like in the Exorcist or Poltergeist or can make us feel good like in Ghost.  Or they can make us laugh like in the TV show Ghosts.  But are spirits just waiting for the Judgment?  This is my thinking.  Most anything is possible.  Oregon has a law against killing a Big Foot.  Why does that law exist?  Because it can.  Enough people in Oregon believe in Big Foot.  So, they had to pass such a law.

Do I think life is a computer simulation?  Maybe.  Some won't go so far to say it's God, but some Master Mind.  At least a few have jokingly suggested earth is a dumping ground for derelict aliens.  I won't go that far.  Niel deGrass Tyson suggests we are made of star dust.  I don't believe that.  But a lot of imagination intersects with both philosophy and theology.  And this is where I come in asking whether Big Foot is sort of human.

I'm not sure.  Many believe it is which is why Oregon has a law against killing one.  I tend to think anything is possible.  But I am somewhat limited by my theological thinking.  I can believe in eternity even though I don't understand it.  Any finite mind thinks in terms of a beginning and an end.  So, a physicist has to be part philosopher when asking what time is.  So, I'm thinking that while anything is possible I'm focused on the right now.  Smoking a pipe helps me stay in the now.  Today it is my Peterson Sherlock Holmes pipe with my Special Blend and my coffee this morning is Stumptown Holler Mountain coffee.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
