My Birthday Pipes

I wanted to live with it before mentioning it or writing about it.  The above photo is my birthday pipe from my son, Jordan.  It's a Savinelli.  It will go down as one of my favorites.  I like bent stem pipes the best and the metal band really sets it apart.  It is a very stylish pipe and it just looks so good.  I wouldn't mind being seen out with this pipe.  It is made of Briar and the bowl is called a Dublin shape although Savinelli is an Italian pipe maker.

I wasn't sure I could write a whole post about it, but it is a very nice pipe.  It does smoke very well and doesn't get real hot as some pipes do.  I love the smooth finish and prefer pipes with a smooth finish.  The grain is perfect and the pipe is flawless.  The stem is acrylic and not plastic as many stems are.  This would have been a man's dress pipe back in the day.  The Briar will darken nicely as it ages.

I had more room to write about another birthday pipe my wife gave me.  It is a porcelain pipe with a metal bowl insert.  It is more for display than being smoked, but it just looks so good.  My wife wanted me to smoke it Saturday evening and I was hesitant thinking that smoking it might ruin it's new appearance.  I've never smoked a metal bowl pipe before and thought that it having been smoked might make it look like a real pipe.

It could be used as a vaping pipe or could be used for something other than tobacco.  But I've since smoked it a couple of times and find it does smoke hot.  One has to be careful handling it as both the metal and porcelain can burn one if one isn't careful.  I can't say I'd smoke it much more if at all, but it no longer looks new, but has a patina as if it has been smoked which it has.

So, these are my birthday pipes and one will sit out on display and the other will go into my collection and will be smoked quite a bit.  I'm pleased with both pipes and have a few others for display only, but they've all been smoked.  Today it is my  new Savinelli with Old Professor and my coffee is Pablo's Pride from Guatamala.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
