Why are They Deadly?

Lust, Greed, Pride, Envy, Gluttony, Anger, and Slothfulness are the Seven Deadly Sins.  Why?  Pope Gregory called them such in the sixth century.  But again why?  He said they lead to the death of the soul and needed penance for forgiveness.  Okay, that's it in a nutshell.  But I went one step further by saying ANY sin can lead to the unforgivable sins of murder and suicide.  I used to do sermon series and thought about writing of each one of these, but then I can add lying, stealing, warfare, and most any sin I wish.

But basically I'm a religion of one and say that what I can't do is take a human life including my own.  But does this mean I can do as I please?  The Apostle Paul would say, "Ne Genote!"  Meaning, No way!"  I can't do as I wish.  I have to be obedient to laws and remain a free man!  I represent my Spirit Guides.  And I don't represent them by being a sinful creature.  So, no, not that I can't sin and do just by breathing, but that I can cause others to do harm if I dont behave myself.

But what of the Seven Dradly Sins?   I could be accused of slothfulness.  Or maybe I keep secret jealousy or envy.  I could lust and no one would know.  Maybe I eat too much.  Maybe I seethe with Anger.  The list goes on and on.  Maybe I AM too big for britches and am full of pride.  Maybe I should self flaggellate or pour ashes on my head.  Or maybe I'll just smoke my pipe and say it's okay to be human as long as I do no harm.

And that is just what I'll do.  Why?  I do no harm.  That is why.  My lusts do no harm.  If I'm a glutton, I do harm to myself.  Maybe I'll get angry if I don't get my way.  Maybe I'll steal over envy.  The list doesn't stop there.  How often has drinking taken Human Life?  Or drugs?  What about stupidity or carelessness?  What about living?  Period.  How then shall we live?  Simple.  We live a path of love and Peace and sometimes that might require we lie to protect feelings.  We lust to show appreciation.  We steal to protect others from harm, or  even feed a family.

We might sin for the greater good.  I'm not saying we should, but who's to ask us why we sin?  So, there you go.  We just don't don't take a life or cause any sin worth taking a life for.  I don't believe in warfare or capital punishment, but not everyone believes in God or His Justice.  Or if they do they might believe He allows for the taking of Human Life.  He might even allow for suicide according to some.  And if there is no God does any of this even matter?  We just live according to laws.

So, my simplification says we just do no harm to others or ourselves.  We have to live within ourselves.  And that's it in a nutshell.  Simply do no harm.  Sometimes sin does no harm, but there are times it does.  How do we know?  We learn.  I'm still learning.  We all do.  Maybe my smoking a ppe is a sin.  To some it would be.  But I'm the one who has to live with it unless you breathe in my smoke, then I guess it all depends unless I'm smoking Old Professor, which I am this morning.  And my coffee is Tropical Bahia Brazil.  And to some, drinking coffee is a sin.  I just can't take any sin too seriously, but then I take all sin seriously enough.  I understand the Grace of God and have to remember that not everyone does.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
