The Aftermath

A wealthy woman in Tampa bragged on social media how her husband, a builder, built a hurricane proof home.  But what she couldn’t count on was the storm surge and the loss of electricity.  I haven’t heard what happened to her and her family, but from what I could find that although her home could withstand the fiercest hurricane, no home can withstand the rising flood waters from a hurricane like that of Milton.  From what I can find they finally fled.  They feared the rising sea waters and the lack of electricity.

It is foolish for anyone to believe any hurricane is just about wind.  There are island houses built to withstand hurricane winds, but no house of any kind can withstand the sea.  We evacuated just for this reason, but after evacuating we found out later we didn’t have to.  This house never lost power and was far from flooding, but as my wife now says, it gave us a chance to interact with others.  We had a steak dinner we shared with three others and we got to know some friends better.  I have learned a valuable lesson here and that is to let the Spirit Guides speak for themselves.

After this adventure my wife says that maybe we can’t do without a car.  So we are thinking about replacing our Avalon with something like a good used Corolla.  I would still like a small sports car like a Miata, but my wife says that is just impractical.  She wants a small sedan since we only drive a few thousand miles a year.

But this experience has taught us a valuable lesson that maybe we can’t do without a car.  We don’t know how long we’ll remain with our son, but the fact is that relying on ride sharing just doesn’t work for us.  You might say it was an experiment to see whether we could, but our Avalon wasn’t practical either.  It was too big for how little we drive.  So we are thinking we need something, but we’ve ruled out an SIV.

We’ve decided a small sedan would be best and it doesn’t have to be new.  But it must be reliable and not too old.  I am thinking about a 2017 Corolla might be best for us.  So, we have begun looking.  But this is a lesson we learned from this hurricane.  Sure a cute little sports car convertible would be nice, but sports cars aren’t practical.  And we don’t need something very big.

So, this is our thinking as we begin our quest for a reliable cheap transportation.  Meanwhile, I am going to relax these days and begin our search.  I’m not worried we won’t find something.  This morning I am smoking my KS7 Churchwarden pipe with my Carter Hall and my coffee is.Pike’s Place by Starbucks. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
