A Cigar Bar Visit

I went to a cigar bar the other day and had my yearly Hemingway Signature cigar.  I mention this because I enjoyed being there while my wife did some Christmas shopping.  It seemed like only about five minutes, but according to my brother-in-law, who was with me, it was about 25 minutes.  Time went by too fast.

But it takes me about a half hour to smoke such a cigar and that was about right.  But the time went by too quickly.  A young man came in as I purchased my cigar and said he wanted to see their pipes for sale.  My eyes mush have lit up like a Christmas tree as I asked him about his pipe smoking.  He said he had been smoking pipes for about a year and I asked him whether he smoked English or Aromatics.  As I smoke both I was curious whether he was into one or the other or both.

I’m into both.  I smoke Aromatics mostly for my wife, but once in a while I love a good English.  I told him I had been a pipe smoker for fifty years.  And I’m proud of that fact.  There are more expensive cigars than a Hemingway Signature, but in my thinking that cigar is the best bang for the buck.  I’m proud of my pipe and cigar knowledge, but know there are so many cigars I have not had.  But the clerk went into the Humidor with me and asked if there was anything I was looking for.  I knew he was impressed when I told him.

I knew what I wanted.  But he had to show me where the Signatures were.  I might have found them on my own, but it would have taken a while.  They used to be 10 bucks, but now they are 13. But it was the best 13 dollars I could spend on a cigar.  I could tell I impressed the tobacconist.  I don’t know everything about pipes and cigars, but I can hold my own against most.

I could work as a tobacconist in most any shop, but I know for a fact how to impress most any tobacconist.  I know what I like in most any pipe, tobacco, or cigar.  I don’t say this to boast, but after 50 years I should know something.  I listen more than I talk, and maybe I seem disinterested, but I am interested in listening.  I listen to the quiet.  It’s how I hear my Spirit Guides.  I’m listening this morning as I smoke my Angel pipe with Buttered Rum tobacco and my coffee is Starbucks Peppermint Mocha.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
