My Worst Fear

 Okay, it might not be the worst that could happen, but when it comes to Christmas I am very much a traditionalist.  I like Santa where he is.  I’m not about to change a thing about Santa including his pipe.  Santa has had a pipe for centuries and I’m not about to take his pipe from him.  But there was something I saw in a video recently that made me cringe.  It was a video of a steampunk Santa, workshop, elves, Mrs. Claus, and the sleigh all in a Steampunk motif.  

I can do without these images.  I don’t need a Steampunk Santa and all that goes with him.  I have to admit the AI artwork in the video was very well done, the elves were all women dressed in Steampunk attire.  Mrs. Claus looked to be a much younger and perfectly proportioned in her own Steampunk attire, being attended to be Steampunk version of various female elves.  

Santa appeared in his Steampunk attire and hardly looked like himself being also attended to by his own female elves.  The whole Steampunk image of it all was just too much Steampunk with too many scantily clad female elves.  It’s just that I could have done without it and really I watched the video out of curiosity, but my thinking was that I am just simply too much of a traditionalist to change Santa into Steampunk.  

This Steampunk Santa didn’t have his traditional pipe.  So, as fascinated as I was by the imagery of the video, my hope is that this doesn’t catch on.  But it was just a matter of time for this kind of imagery to appear.  And I think the video I saw was a few years old.  But AI videos while still looking cartoonish at times are quite well done.  So, my thinking was as I watched this particular video that all the elements were there.  Except for Santa’s pipe.  I find Steampunk interesting but I don’t want to live there.  

Like all fantasy, they are fun to visit.  But I’m just too traditional to get into anything Steampunk.  I just want to have an overweight Santa with a long nearly trimmed white beard, a red suit, and his pipe.  He lives with Mrs. Claus who is matronly.  The rest is whatever you want to believe it is.  Never mind figuring out how he does it in one night or how he puts all the gifts in his bag.  We aren’t supposed to worry about how it all gets done in one night.  That right there is the myth of Christmas and it simply works.  Don’t change a good thing!

Well, those are my thoughts about a Steampunk Christmas.  I can’t unsee it.  But the best tradition, in my thinking, is his pipe.  Today it is my Peterson Sherlock Holmes pipe with Good Stuff Menthol tobacco.  My coffee this morning is from Brazil, or Guatemala, as I’m not sure.  Thank you for your time and peace to each one of you.

Strange

 I can never predict how any of my posts are going to be received but I do get a reaction from my wife quite often, but I'll post about my Spirituality thinking I've said enough and apart from a few other subjects my Spirituality posts do quite well.  I had yesterday's tobacco review done a few days ago and saved it for yesterday and again, it seems my tobacco reviews do quite well.  Then I wrote about my age and it seemed no one cared that much   My wife says that it's my titles for my subjects So, while I have so many subjects to choose from, today it is about how my tobacco choices influence my Spirituality or do they?  Not really.  It's just that I can't smoke my pipes without tobacco.  I could be smoking a lot of things.  Like the question asked when someone thinks you are crazy, " What have I been smoking?"  Well, at least you know.  It's never any "funny" stuff.  You could be asking what I've been drinking.  I have ...

Old Ads

 My wife liked my post about old things we remember.  And a lot of what I remembered was good.  But there was some bad things back then that are different today.  Back in the 50's and 60's and even into the 70's advertising in both magazines and TV were incredibly sexist.  I don't have the space in one post to list all the ads, but really they can be summed by saying that a lot of advertising was incredibly sexist. I 've mentioned my wife lit my pipe for me just a few times, but these days she can barely tolerate the aroma of my most flavorful Aromatic tobacco.  She liked everything I said in that post except my mentioning Old Professor pipe tobacco.  Ironically, I like Old Professor the most and she hates it the most.  So, when I mentioned it, she did too.  But back in the day a man smoking a pipe was his lifestyle.  Today, it's a hobby, and not just for men.
