Our Crazy Cats

I’m going to try to make this as simple as I can.  We have two cats.  Sir William Wallace was our first cat we acquired about six months ago.  Apollo is a cat we acquired about a month ago.  I call the other cat “Sir” but it seems he prefers “Willie” or at times we call him “William.”  He’s a Maine Coon cat mostly and lived in a barn for four years.  When we had a dog staying with us that was part Rottweiler, he not only owned the house, but the dog too.

In his playful moods he’ll chase Apollo around who has nothing to do with him if he can help it.  Apollo is a full Siamese cat that gets into everything.  But he knows Sir owns the house.  But most of the time they get along quite well.  We acquired Apollo from owners who moved to Australia and couldn’t take him with him.  So in a sense he’s on loan, but since it costs thousands of dollars to bring him into Australia, we are thinking he might be permanent.

When Ben was looking for a cat, he went to a cat cafe where cats freely roam.  Most are strays that have been fixed with all shots.  So, they are all ready to be adopted.  Ben went into this cafe and sat down.  William chose Ben and not the other way around.  He hopped on Ben’s lap and the owner of the cafe said that he’s shy and had never done that before.  So, Sir found his new owner.

Well, this morning Sir was in one of his frisky moods and was running all over the place and chasing Apollo when he could.  We had feared one of the cats might accidentally fall in the pool and sure enough it happened to Sir this morning.  He was running around and slipped into the pool.  We have a door on our sliding door just for the cats to go in and out and no sooner had I heard the splash I was ready to jump in the pool, but Sir darted for the cat door with Apollo right behind.

I tried to dry Sir off with a kitchen towel but wasn’t sure Sir was in the water long enough to even get wet.  I guess he found Ben on a couch who exclaimed that William was wet.  I told Ben what had happened but couldn’t get Sir still enough to dry him off.  I said in time he’ll dry.  But there he was.  William soaking wet with Apollo standing nearby trying to take it all in.

The cats are usually on the lanai with Apollo sitting on his chair, but right now both are inside with Sur trying to figure out what happened.  No sooner did I hear the splash and get out of my chair knowing one of the cats fell in the pool that Sir was out making a mad dash to the cat door.  I was ready to get soaked if I had to go in and get him. But thankfully, as I said, I’m not sure he was in long enough to even get wet.  He just lost his footing and wet right in.  I’m not even sure he got his head wet.

Well, we have two crazy cats.  One wants to run all over the place and the other just likes getting into things.  We had food and their treats in a cupboard.  Apollo figured out how to get to them.  So we had to secure them better to keep him out.  Siamese cats are smart and can figure things out.  Both are quite sociable and don’t mind being held.  But with cats one never knows.  They are both our crazy cats.  I’m smoking my Peterson Irish Harp pipe this morning with Buttered Rum pipe tobacco and my coffee is unknown to me this morning as my wife made my coffee for me this morning.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
