Something Different

Okay, let’s talk football!  I need my diversion now and for me there is nothing like football.  It is really the only diversion I have for the moment.  I’ve been watching a lot of YouTube predictions about the two games left before the championship game.  OSU is the Vegas odds-on favorite to win the whole thing.  The Penn State/Notre Dame game is essentially a toss-up.  ND is favored by a point and a half, which is basically a toss-up.

I’ve been listening to what analysts are saying, but despite OSU’s wins it’s the most recent Michigan loss that raises questions right now.  OSU is favored over Texas by five and half, but I’ve heard several experts say that margin should be seven or more.  Is Texas that much better than Oregon?  There are a few who say Oregon just might be the best team still.  No one seems to know which OSU team will show up for any given game.

What is fascinating is that the oldest of the four coaches has the most experience but none has ever won a championship.  James Franklin of Penn State is the oldest of the four at 52, but has never won a championship.  Does championship experience matter?  This is why Georgia was an early pick to win it all.  The team with the most talented roster is OSU, but injuries to the offensive line has given them problems.  But have they fixed that as proven by games against Tennessee and OR?

Do they have the chemistry in place now to beat Texas?  If OSU gets past Texas they will be favored to beat Penn State or ND.  It’s really too bad the OSU/Texas game isn’t the final.  It’s too bad the OSU/OR game wasn’t the final although that game with outcome it had would have been anticlimactic.  Is OSU football at its best?  If it is now, they will win the whole thing.

As for professional football I checked to see what Vegas is saying about a three peat of The Chiefs.  Right now Buffalo is favored with the Eagles having the best roster in pro football.  They are right behind Buffalo in a close second.  The Chiefs are third with the Lions at fourth.  Right now Vegas says the SB will be between Buffalo and the Eagles.  Buffalo has a bit more experience.  The Chiefs aren’t the favorites.

The Lions aren’t far behind the Eagles, but right now they have a few more injuries with less depth.  They had a good performance against the Vikings.  And they have to get by the Eagles to get to the SB and right now Vegas is saying they can’t beat Philly.  So the four teams in the semis are the Eagles, Bills, Chiefs, and the Lions.  Vegas says the Eagles and Bills will play in SB.

So this is my football analysis this morning.  OSU wins the college crown this year and the Bills win the SB.  I love to see how Vegas does in the betting.  The odds makers set the points and totals for each game.  Just how well Vegas is predicting this year remains to be seen.  Football doesn’t have Cinderella teams.  Football is far different from basketball.  It’s a team sport that requires personnel at every position to play against the best.

The Lions could be a Cinderella, but are they good enough as a team to beat the Eagles?  Vegas doesn’t think so.  OSU has the best team, but is the coaching good enough to win?  Mich proved otherwise.  But Tenn and OR failed.  Just how good is Texas given their performance against Arizona State?  I usually go with Vegas thinking they always know.  Upsets are less likely in championship games.  But I’m an armchair quarterback who smokes a pipe while watching what the analysts say.  This morning it is my Gettysburg pipe with Smooth English tobacco, and my coffee is Stumptown Homestead coffee.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
