Brittle Stems
I wasn’t sure I would write today, but yesterday after posting about my Savinelli Champagne Canadian pipe, I was smoking it and after letting it cool, I was removing the stem to clean it with a pipe cleaner and didn’t realize how brittle the stem was. It didn’t just break but shattered. My wife suggested I just throw it away, because the cost to fix it would be more than the pipe was worth.
In 50 years of pipe smoking I have broken more stems than I have in the past few months. My pipes are getting too old and the stems break too easily. I can get them fixed and at least one I have repaired myself. But my pipes aren’t so valuable they need to be fixed. But we’ll see about the Champagne pipe. There might not be a stem available for it.
But today is Sunday and I’m smoking my Nording Angel pipe this morning. I owned this pipe for about a year and had smoked it once during that time, but wasn’t sure I wanted to smoke it. Then I did some research on this special pipe and started smoking it once one Sunday’s and realized it is a very good pipe. Of course, it’s my favorite pipe, but I might be able to talk my wife into getting me a fairly inexpensive estate pipe as an anniversary gift.
She’ll see my comment about it here and let me know. We aren’t big on anniversary gifts, but my brother-in-law and his wife did give us a cruise as a thirtieth anniversary gift. My wife was looking into a cruise for us for our fiftieth but it would be nothing like our thirtieth cruise. She can’t walk great distances, so this would be just a rather simple cruise going to just Key West and Cozumel. So we shall see about that.
But this afternoon it is ny Angel with some Constellation. I’ve had my coffee for today, but I’m having a half cup of some Stumptown Homestead coffee that actually tastes pretty good for an afternoon cup. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
Dave
