Death of a Computer
I had a cheap HP computer that died on me the other night. And I decided to replace it with a fairly cheap iPad since I have an iPhone and I watch. All my architecture is Apple, but feel Apple computers are over priced. I can get by with an iPad. I don’t need a lot of bells and whistles. At night I enjoy watching YouTube vids if they are mindless enough.
I have a lot of old computers lying around but feel I don’t need a computer. I have books in my head and need an internet connection to work on them. I used to do stuff on my on when it came to fixing computers. But these days, while I have the time, I don’t have the patience to fool with it. I think it would cost more to take it in than the thing is worth.
A ten inch screen is a lot smaller than 17 inches, but I had a tablet I used all the time and decided I can do without a computer. I like to watch old vids that predict the year 2000 back in 1950. Those vids are so much fun to watch. My generation today is still waiting for flying cars.
But no one back then could foresee the future with cell phones. A cell phone today does it all.
My wife asked me what I’ll do with my old HP now. I’ll put it in a closet and just have it as I never get rid of old computers any longer. We have old laptops just lying around taking up space. But unlike the old desktops, they’re easier to store. I might be able to use it for parts, but I have two old Apple laptops in NY and now two old PC laptops here.
I was looking at old receivers from the 70’s to see what they are going for these days. They were expensive back in the day and cost as much now as they did new back in the day. Tube receivers are favored by audiophiles today, but they’re expensive and constantly need attention.
Electronics have evolved the most. Now speakers don’t have wires but connect by Bluetooth. A laptop today isn’t much different from the same thing four years ago. RAM seems to always be getting cheaper and while 8GB was the norm now it’s 16 because of gaming. But now you don’t need a high-end computer for gaming. But now 64GB isn’t that unusual and still less than a couple grand.
Memory used to be so expensive. But now it’s relatively cheap. Well, those are my thoughts about computers. I’ll just get an iPad. So, I’m smoking my Hilton pipe with Old Professor tobacco as I contemplate all these things this morning. The coffee this morning is from Trader Joe’s. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
Dave
