Definitely an Early Pipe
I had a friend who was a tobacconist at a pipe shop and his favorite pipes were Canadian. A Canadian pipe is described as a straight stem pipe and is a style of pipe. The name comes from Canadian lumbermen who favored this style of pipe. The shank is oval as opposed to being round that defines it as a Canadian pipe. The name goes as far back as the late 1800’s to identify this style of pipe. No one really seems to know how the name stuck with this style of pipe, but the shank is typically twice as long as the bowl.
Savinelli chose the name Champagne to signify the uniqueness of the pipe. It is a more formal design and would be well suited for a formal dinner party, hence the name. I thought about cleaning the bit some, but decided to show the pipe as it is with a kind of patina. The pipe is well used and like all my pipes it is well cared for through the years of use. This has been a favorite pipe, if for no other reason that is a classic design the simply looked good.
On Saturday’s I have smoked my Boswell pipe, but I am smoking this pipe this Saturday morning with some Old Professor tobacco. My coffee this morning is Stumptown Homestead blend. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
