Dug a Little Deeper
I did some more research on my Rungsted Danish pipe yesterday to see if I could find out more about it. It seems my pipe from yesterday is a very rare pipe and was made in the 70’s not by Erik Nording but was made by Preben Holmes. I have one of his pipes with his name on it, but evidently my Rungsted pipe is quite rare as many have never heard of it. I wish I could remember more as to how I acquired that pipe, but I simply don’t.
There is a Seafarerer’s line by Rungsted and the name Driftwood is all I have for a name for it as it is stamped on the shank of the pipe. But evidently it is a rare collector’s item. I actually had no idea. I can’t find anything much about Rungsted as a pipe company except the pipe says it was made in Denmark.
I saw that one person on Reddit restored an old Rungsted pipe that he bought on EBay that he said was almost in mint condition. But he didn’t say how much he paid for it. It was thought it was an early Ben Wade pipe, but his further research told him it was a design by Preben Holmes. I have a Preben Holmes pipe I’ll feature later, but it was originally thought the design was by Erik Nording.
I’m a little baffled by not remembering how I acquired this pipe, because it is a pipe I must have purchased in St. Paul around 1980 or before. But it is a 70’s pipe. I just don’t recall. Back then there was a pipe shop on every corner and it had have been purchased around 1978 or so. I simply don’t recall. It may have come from the same Tinderbox store where I bought my Rosedale.
All I remember about it is that my wife was with me and we liked the freehand style of the pipe. But as to how much I paid for it I have absolutely no idea. I can vaguely remember purchasing it, but that is all I remember about it. I bought a lot of pipes in the late 80’s on, but all I know is that it my third pipe. But now it seems to be a collector’s item. It might be a quite valuable pipe. I’d have to get it appraised to find out its value, but it could be worth hundreds, if not more.
So, I wanted to add this post this morning to what I said about it about it yesterday. My Driftwood pipe is a very rare pipe. But it’s not for sale. I’ll simply take very good care of it as I have and let you know the photo from yesterday is of a very rare pipe. My pipe this morning is my Dunhill and my tobacco is Constellation. My coffee this morning is my Bella Maria which describes itself as sweet and seductive. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
