Pipe Number Two
In 1976 my wife and I moved to Minnesota so I could go to seminary. In the winter of that year we visited a Tinderbox store. Tinderbox had a store in practically every mall back then. Tinderbox was the place to go for anything related to pipes and cigars. I didn’t get into cigars until the late 80’s, but I had my only pipe for a few years and really enjoyed it. I was thinking I could share my new hobby with others.
If someone wanted to smoke a pipe with me I needed a second one. I knew there were pipe smokers who had many pipes and I was on my way into collecting pipes, but knew I didn’t have a lot of money to spend on my collection. In fact I believe it was around Christmas and my wife thought a new pipe would make a nice gift. There was a music store next to the Tinderbox and I bought my wife a guitar there for Christmas.
We told the tobacconist there how much we wanted to spend and he showed us this particular pipe. It was called a Rosedale for the name of the mall there. It didn’t take much for us to decide on it. The pipe was shaped similarly to my Jobey but was quite different. Still, I knew little about pipes but we both liked it. Not sure how much it was but I’m guessing it was around 50 bucks.
So this Rosedale became my second pipe. Years later I learned it may have been made by Peterson and is still one of my favorite pipes. I still smoke it once in awhile and is a good pipe. Again I’ve taken very good care of it. But today is Sunday and a day for which I save my Nording Angel pipe. My coffee this morning is Stumptown Founder’s coffee. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
Dave
