The Sherlock Holmes Series

I won’t collect them all and maybe I’ll just have the one Sherlock Holmes pipes.  But it just might be my favorite series of pipes and if I collected them all it would take years for me to do so.  The other series is the Dracula series also by Peterson but I have no interest in the Dracula pipes.  I have my one Sherlock Holmes pipe, but what sets them apart is that they each have a silver band with the Sherlock head stamped on each one.

This makes each pipe different and although they might be similar to other Peterson pipes, each Sherlock Holmes pipe is very distinct and different.  If I were to get another pipe in the series it might be the Professor’s pipe so named for Professor Moriarty.  Each style was smoked by a character either in the book, on stage, or in the movies about Sherlock Holmes and his various enemies.

Each pipe is different and unique and comes in price ranges from about $125-$300.  I’m not interested in the more expensive ones, but the cheaper pipes come in a rustic finish while the more expensive pipes are smooth and much lighter in color that will darken with age and use.  Of course the more expensive ones might be collector’s pipes while the others can be, but most often will be smoked.

It’s the silver band with the Sherlock Holmes logo that sets the series apart.  And while the more expensive pipes might be favored, the less expensive pipes are more practical in my thinking.  It’s the silver band with the logo that sets these pipes apart from all other Peterson pipes.  Are they better Peterson pipes?  They are good pipes in all the price ranges.  Each in the line are still different even though they may look similar.

They are each more unique and are set apart from other Peterson pipes.  A little more attention to detail goes into a Sherlock Holmes pipe, but to say a good Peterson pipe might be the same as a Sherlock Holmes pipe just might be a matter of the logo.  And some Peterson pipes have a stainless steel band as opposed to silver.  A more expensive pipe uses more briar wood and might be a bit harder hence it is more durable.  Often it’s a matter of taste and affordability.

Obviously one will pay more for the silver band and perhaps a bit more attention is given to the making of a pipe.  But more often a pipe is what you pay for.  But is a $500 pipe of lesser quality than a $5,000 pipe?  Again one might not smoke a pipe costing more than $500.  One might not smoke a more expensive Holmes pipe.  It just depends.

My point is that the Professor’s pipe is my next pipe choice were I to buy another pipe.  I like the style of pipe and is similar to a pipe I already own.  But it is different in every way and that is my point.  Each Sherlock Holmes pipe is different from all other Peterson pipes.  I’m smoking  my Dunhill pipe this morning with Old Professor tobacco and my coffee this morning is Stumptown Homestead coffee.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
