Davidoff English Mixture

My tobacco and pipe reviews seem to be popular.  When I tell people I’m a pipe smoker I don’t explain the why.  I had my BP checked this morning and it is 101/60.  I wondered whether I was even alive.  I got used to 120/80, but these days it hovers around 110/70.  First is the weight loss, but I contribute the real reason to the pipe.  So, once in a while I’ll write a review here.  I posted one yesterday on Smoking Pipes and that was about the tobacco I want to review today.

An Aromatic tobacco is an Aromatic.  Some Virginia, a blend of Burley, with some Cavendish, and then whatever flavor they want to make it.  All English blends have no flavoring.  Just pure tobacco.  My favorite was Old Professor, but now I need to replace it and I have yet to find one I like just as much.  Well, I can honestly say Davidoff English Mixture ain’t it.

I bought a tin and will finish it, but I won’t buy it again.  Now, let me explain why.  If one is just starting to smoke a pipe and one wishes to begin with an English this is an excellent introduction to the world of English tobaccos.  This is how I see this blend.  Nothing complicated about it.  Just Virginias, with some Latakia, and a bit of Perique.  It’s all nicely aged and is fairly mild as an English tobacco goes.

Nothing complicated about it.  Just a straight forward English tobacco.  It’s very well behaved with nothing surprising about it.  As an English it might have a fairly pleasant room note, but I’m not sure about that.  It’s the kind of tobacco blend that requires little thought to it and can be smoked all day long.  I gave it a four out of five stars as an English tobacco.  It’s good, but not a great English.

Orientals added is what makes an English more complex plus the aging process.  This is a straight forward English tobacco.  Nothing complex about it.  I’ll smoke the entire tin, but I won’t buy it again.  There are just too many good English blends out there and this does not stand out.  It’s better than average but not great.  Just a good simple blend.  But at least I can say that I tried it.

Old Professor stood out because of the Oriental tobaccos in it.  This would not replace it.  Very simply it is good.  It’s not great but is good as an introduction to the world of English tobaccos.  There are some that stand out.  This does not.  It’s simply good.  And really that is all I need to say about it.  Some Aromatics have unusual flavors.  But as an English there is nothing unusual about it.  I’m smoking my Peterson Sherlock Holmes pipe this morning.  My coffee is a unique blend from Sprouts.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
