They’re Out There

There are so many vids about music from the 60’s to the early 70’s that I don’t need to add my two cents to what has been said.  I’d just rather listen to the music and save the back stories for others to tell,  Disco killed the good music although the later 70’s gave us the Eagles, Foreigner, and Boston and other such groups.  And I could mention a number of single performers who gave us some great music after these years.

But it seems to me a lot of good music died after this period.  One of my sons made the comment that you can tell when artists got off drugs.  Their music isn’t as good.  I still think about his comment from to time to time and he’s probably right.  These days performers and groups seem to come and go.

It’s just that in the history of pop music, it just seems this period gave us the best.  There was a lot going on in the history of the world during that time and the music was a reflection of the culture during that time.  CCR was best known for their anti Viet Nam War music during that time.  It was also a drug culture mostly with psychedelic drugs and even hard drug usage.  It was a sexual revolution as well.

The music was fresh at the time and still resonates today.  I listen to very little post era music with rare exceptions.  It’s just that the music was so good.  Mick Jagger is hanging in there at around 80 and Elton John has to retire.  But a few legends are still with us.  And they still draw sell-out crowds to their concerts.  I could list many artists who are still alive but were forced to quit due to various health reasons.  But Willie Nelson might be the old man of this group who is still kicking at 91.

But the memories they gave us and their music is still enjoyed by the younger generations of today.  The music is THAT good.  Oh, maybe I am just being an old man this morning reflecting back on the music of my youth.  It’s just that the music never gets old and I never tire of listening to it.  And that is my point this morning.  Artists today come and go.  So does their music.  But the music from that era has staying power.

That is my point this morning.  When something is good you stay with it.  I’ve been with my wife for 50 years and I’ve smoked a pipe for that long and stayed with it.  This is Sunday and is the day I smoke my Nording Angel pipe.  My tobacco this morning is Batou Night and my coffee is Stumptown Holler Mountain. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

Dave
