If it’s Not One Thing

It’s something else.  Life is a lot like that.  We enjoy our Florida life, but in some ways we’d like our own place.  But it’s mostly my wife who keeps these running around here.  She knows who to call when something needs done.  She maintains her list of guys, although my son has friends that can do things.  But we try to keep things running smoothly here.  

This is a lot of house for just one person.  I try to stay out of the way as I smoke my pipe.  My wife knows where I am.  And it’s college football season and I watch most games out here on the lanai.  If my wife needs me she knows where to find me.  And if anyone wants to join me they are certainly welcome.  I just try to be out of the way.  

I wanted to order that small batch from Cornel and Diehl.  When I placed my order this morning I was told they were sold out of the small batch.  But I wasn’t too disappointed.  They have a Christmas blend called We Three Kings.  I ordered a tin and will save it for when it’s closer to Christmas.  They will sell all they have of that pretty quickly.  Whenever there is a special blend they sell it quickly.  

But this time around I didn’t order anything I haven’t had.  I did get a tin of Captain Black Original.  Sometimes I get a special Blend when I can, but I missed out this time around.  But that is okay.  Sometimes I can get something different before it goes out of stock.  I’m not big on writing reviews.  I’ve written a few though.  

I’m supposed to be an expert on tobaccos.  And in some ways maybe I am.  I have my favorites.  I’ll try something different once in a while.  I enjoy a hearty English and once in a great while I’ll smoke an Aromatic.  But I’ve had the best and enjoy a modest priced good English.  My first pipe of the day with a cup of hot fresh coffee is always the best.  

I went with a change of pace this morning.  I have a bit of Gold and Maple left and I’m smoking some of that this morning.  My coffee is a special blend from Guatemala. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

The Sherlock Holmes Series

 I won’t collect them all and maybe I’ll just have the one Sherlock Holmes pipes.  But it just might be my favorite series of pipes and if I collected them all it would take years for me to do so.  The other series is the Dracula series also by Peterson but I have no interest in the Dracula pipes.  I have my one Sherlock Holmes pipe, but what sets them apart is that they each have a silver band with the Sherlock head stamped on each one.   This makes each pipe different and although they might be similar to other Peterson pipes, each Sherlock Holmes pipe is very distinct and different.  If I were to get another pipe in the series it might be the Professor’s pipe so named for Professor Moriarty.  Each style was smoked by a character either in the book, on stage, or in the movies about Sherlock Holmes and his various enemies.   Each pipe is different and unique and comes in price ranges from about $125-$300.  I’m not interested in the more expe...

 Tomorrow ends the 14th year since my hear attack.  I had the widow-maker and only by the grace of God and a good heart surgeon I survived.  I had never experienced such pain in my life!  I knew I wasn’t going to die but my heart was damaged so much it functions at about 50%.   It was a Saturday and we were going to visit my mom.  The timing couldn’t have been better!  We could have been out on the road.  It was about nine O’clock in the morning and I had to pump up a tire on the car.  The funny thing is I had a BP check in October and it was 120/80 with no signs of anything being wrong.   I was about 30 pounds over weight and I simply was not taking very good care of myself.  I was under some duress during that time, but still no sign of it happening.  My wife questioned as to whether it was a heart attack but I told her to call 911.  I had no doubt what was happening.   The squad came and they confirmed it was a hea...

A Different Kind of Birthday

I might be the only one my age who says I’m fourteen today but I suppose if you were to ask my family I’m in my second childhood so-to-speak.  But yesterday I made a big deal out of my heart attack but today not so much.    It’s not that I fear death—no, I fear pain.  Death doesn’t frighten me in the least.  I have talked with many who have had that kind of heart attack and the women have said it’s worse than child birth.  There really isn’t a pain like it they have said.  If I could go without the pain I’d be in heaven right now.   But if I had to go through that pain to get there I’d rather live.  But a lot has happened in these last fourteen years.  And I’ve been alive to live my life relatively pain free.  My appendicitis wasn’t all that painful but the stomach tube was annoying enough.  But we sold our home and invested in another place in NY and now live with our son here in Florida.   I’m limited in what u do and I ...
