About Smoke Rings

 I sat out here on the lanai last evening and for some reason I started blowing smoke rings as I smoked my pipe.  I used to watch cloud formations as a kid and tried to make designs in my head out of the clouds.  I sometimes wondered if I could see things in pipe smoke I used to see in clouds.  Oh, sure, there are bunnies, unicorns, and angels but seeing formations in pipe smoke takes quite an imagination.  And the smoke doesn’t last very long unless I photograph myself blowing smoke and try to make out designs.  

Pipe smoke doesn’t hang around as long as clouds in the sky.  It’s partly why I’ll take vids of myself smoking a pipe.  Maybe if I freeze a frame I’ll see something, but while others post things interesting I mostly post vids of myself smoking my pipe.  I have quite a pipe collection, but I smoke but mostly the same pipes throughout the week.  

My vids are mostly just me in a t-shirt smoking my pipes.  I get more smoke from a pipe shortly after it is lit.  That’s when I take vids of myself smoking my pipes.  I could post other things, but I let my family post those things more interesting.  And most who follow me are friends with them too.  My pipes are my hobby, if you want to call it that.  

At 74, I’m not sure I’m much to look at, but I follow a lot of pipe related friends on FB.  But I do it to let my family know I’m okay.  Pipes and angels seem to be my things.  I’ll write here about both and throw in a few other things here and there.  I’ll see if I can’t capture myself blowing smoke rings.  I won’t spend a lot of time doing it.  I’ll just take vids and see what happens.

I don’t spend much time doing my vids.  I shoot for about 15 seconds and if I keep trying for the perfect shoot, well there won’t be any.  They’ll all be the same.  It’s my head and a pipe.  If I just take vids of myself blowing smoke maybe you’ll see some unicorns and angels.  My pipe this morning is my Dunhill pipe with some Bayou Night.  My coffee this morning is a special blend from Sprouts.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.

The Sherlock Holmes Series

 I won’t collect them all and maybe I’ll just have the one Sherlock Holmes pipes.  But it just might be my favorite series of pipes and if I collected them all it would take years for me to do so.  The other series is the Dracula series also by Peterson but I have no interest in the Dracula pipes.  I have my one Sherlock Holmes pipe, but what sets them apart is that they each have a silver band with the Sherlock head stamped on each one.   This makes each pipe different and although they might be similar to other Peterson pipes, each Sherlock Holmes pipe is very distinct and different.  If I were to get another pipe in the series it might be the Professor’s pipe so named for Professor Moriarty.  Each style was smoked by a character either in the book, on stage, or in the movies about Sherlock Holmes and his various enemies.   Each pipe is different and unique and comes in price ranges from about $125-$300.  I’m not interested in the more expe...

Almost

 Tomorrow ends the 14th year since my hear attack.  I had the widow-maker and only by the grace of God and a good heart surgeon I survived.  I had never experienced such pain in my life!  I knew I wasn’t going to die but my heart was damaged so much it functions at about 50%.   It was a Saturday and we were going to visit my mom.  The timing couldn’t have been better!  We could have been out on the road.  It was about nine O’clock in the morning and I had to pump up a tire on the car.  The funny thing is I had a BP check in October and it was 120/80 with no signs of anything being wrong.   I was about 30 pounds over weight and I simply was not taking very good care of myself.  I was under some duress during that time, but still no sign of it happening.  My wife questioned as to whether it was a heart attack but I told her to call 911.  I had no doubt what was happening.   The squad came and they confirmed it was a hea...

A Different Kind of Birthday

I might be the only one my age who says I’m fourteen today but I suppose if you were to ask my family I’m in my second childhood so-to-speak.  But yesterday I made a big deal out of my heart attack but today not so much.    It’s not that I fear death—no, I fear pain.  Death doesn’t frighten me in the least.  I have talked with many who have had that kind of heart attack and the women have said it’s worse than child birth.  There really isn’t a pain like it they have said.  If I could go without the pain I’d be in heaven right now.   But if I had to go through that pain to get there I’d rather live.  But a lot has happened in these last fourteen years.  And I’ve been alive to live my life relatively pain free.  My appendicitis wasn’t all that painful but the stomach tube was annoying enough.  But we sold our home and invested in another place in NY and now live with our son here in Florida.   I’m limited in what u do and I ...
