My Collection

I was posting in the mornings, but I’ve been sleeping in lately letting it warm up before coming outside and decided to post when I’m ready.

Apart from the US my pipe collection represents a number of countries, mostly Danish, Irish, and Italian.  I have pipes from other countries, but these countries are most representative of my collection.  As for tobaccos I would say I smoke mostly tobaccos from the US and Denmark with Ireland in the mix.

Pipe smoking is common in most countries of the developed world.  Some pipe makers have made pipes even in China.  I’m not sure I have any pipes made in China, but a lot of products sold in the US come from China.  But tobaccos come from mostly the US, Denmark, and Ireland.  Dunhill and Davidoff are from England with Dunhill having sold their blends to Peterson which is Irish.

I mention this because as a pipe smoker, I don’t want to pay more for European pipes and tobaccos.  But it all depends.  Pipe smokers know the importance of European pipes and tobaccos.  Years ago when many members of Congress smoked pipes, they knew the importance of European trade partners.  But this isn’t as important to those who trade with Europe for products.

In some ways pipe smokers belong to a pretty exclusive club of both men and women who smoke pipes.  Our voices are relatively small, but we’re a relatively tight knit group of people.  And many pipe clubs are either based in Europe or the US.  I belong to pipe clubs based in Italy.  There are a few good pipe designers in Japan.  But pipe smokers are a relative tight knit group.

We avoid discussions of religion and politics focusing more on philosophy and related ideas.  It is rare to find a friend who has smoking pipes in common.  But once we find them we strive to keep them.  We’re a special group of people the world over who just happen to have one thing in common:  Our pipes.  My pipe this afternoon is my Nording Number 2 pipe and I am smoking some Peter Stokkebye Proper English, both of which are from Denmark.  Thank you for your time and Peace and Love to each one of you.

Dave
