About Desperation
Desperate people do desperate things. It’s amazing how old people respond to religious ideas once they face the end of life. They begin to fear death and seek to be immortalized. But desperation knows no age or income. Desperation has as many reasons as sin in general.
But for those of us who don’t fear death, there is no desperation. We take each day as a blessing. We are thankful to just be alive. Desperation may set in if one knows one’s time is limited. Desperation is a way to argue with the inevitable.
I am far from a desperate old person. I am waiting for the arrival of the Messiah and sometimes that waiting taxes my patience. But I never live in desperation while waiting. I simply don’t worry about death or dying, but often wonder how long I have to wait for the Messiah to come. Desperate people feel they must do something in order to survive.
The poor get desperate for money so they beg. The rich and powerful worry about their wealth and power and can get desperate to hang on to it. Peace and relaxation is the opposite of desperation. Peace is knowing one can only do so much. Peace is trusting. And the by-product of Peace is Love.
I relax by smoking my pipe knowing I have lived my life the best I could. If God wants me to do more He knows I will do more. Peace and Love is not desperation but contentment. It is a place of relaxation. My pipe this morning is my Nording Number 2 pipe with some Cornell and Diehl Old College pipe tobacco. Thank you for your time and Peace and Love to each one of you.
