Cycles
The year has cycles. It seems every November we begin looking forward to Christmas, but when the holidays are over we're faced with January. It is the month that might be dreaded the most unless in my wife's case your birthday is in January. It is the month that is literally in the dead of Wnter. Things seem to brighten a bit as we begin to look forward to Valentine's Day in February and after that we begin to think about Spring.
But the bleaknest of all months is January with perhaps August in the summer. I had a lot to write about in December, but now that the holidays are over, I'm finding myself doing a lot of reading to find things to write about here. Maybe I need some weed, just to expand my mind a bit, but for me tobacco is enough with the occassiinal glass of wine.
I am thinking about my wife's birthday toward the end of the month and I have begun shopping for that special gift for her as I do every year. But we're like most older couples in that if we need something we just buy it. I'm wondering what she needs. So much of my time will be spent searching for that special gift. I'm happy with a special gift of wine or that better tobacco I might not buy otherwise.
But I'm finding every year it gets harder and harder to find that special gift for her. We've been to so many places and our traveling is limited, so a planned trip is out of the question. And I might let her make her own wish list and choose from that. But apart from her birthday, January just is not a great month.
There needs to be something other than Martin Luther King Day to celebrate in January. We need a Festivus Day as Seinfeld had. It seems December just takes all our attention and when it's all over there is January. Here in Florida January is usually sunny but cooler. So far this year the month has been relatively gloomy. So, I'm working hard at finding bright things to write about this month.
I had great enjoyment writing during December, but as to whether I can keep it going, we'll see. I always get feedback from my wife and we'll see as January unfolds. I'll look for what I think are interesting news items, but while I get into all that, I just at least want to write about what I think is interesting. I've said enough about my Spiritually and I'll avoid anything political in nature.
Meanwhile, I've pretty much commented on my pipes and tobacco. January just isn't a very exciting month. But I'll do my part to at least make it interesting. I'll try. Today it is my Dunhill with some Captain Bob's English Blend. Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
