A Big Problem

General Motors has experienced a big problem with the Corvette.  Maybe not many people can buy a Corvette, but General Motors has a big headache with the most expensive car they make.  It only affects 23,000 cars, but General Motors says these cars can only catch fire from a design flaw, but there are two cases where the cars have exploded from a fuel line catching fire and causing the cars to explode.

The problem is that GM has halted the sale of all Corvettes manufactured in the past few years.  Dealers have been selling these cars which have been marked up over the MSRP price.  Now they have to sit on dealers lots until GM can figure out the problem and fix them.

These cars can be sold on private sales, but dealers have to keep their inventories and are instructed to not sell any Corvettes until the problem is fixed.  There is a fuel line near the radiator that can catch fire if it overheats.  And now GM is scrambling to find a fix.  Meanwhile dealers are told not to sell any Corvettes.

This halt in sales has made existing used Corvettes very pricey on the used private market with buyers willing to take the risks with these cars.  The demand is so high that private sellers are making profits dealers can’t make.  But is the risk worth it?  And has the Corvette brought down the value of the entire GM line of cars?

Not that I am in the market for the Corvette, but GM finds itself in a kind of conundrum with the problems of the Corvette.  How long will it take GM to figure it out and fix the problem?  It’s not my concern but I find it interesting that people will take risks just to own a Corvette.  I’ll just relax and follow the story.  If you want a high price Corvette you’ll have to wait to get one.  I’ll just relax with my Peterson Irish Harp pipe and be glad I don’t have to worry about it all.  Thank you for your time and Peace to each one of you.
