Which is Best?
My wife and I are getting ready to summer in upstate NY in a few weeks. I sat on the lanai this morning smoking my pipe and listening to Sunday Morning Coffee and I began to wonder if I liked Sunday mornings in NY over Sunday mornings in Florida. I’m not crazy about the overall solitude of NY. It rains more in NY and if it rains here in Florida I am sheltered by the lanai. If it rains in NY, I am relegated to smoking my pipe in the garage.
Each has its own likes and dislikes. I like suburban living over the country of NY. But there we are surrounded by woods and wild life. There are always chores that must be done—even on Sundays. I love sitting on the deck of our NY home and smoking a pipe. The deer often ramble through our yard after emerging from the woods behind.
I have a lot of photographs of deer. But summers in NY are best. The quiet of Sunday mornings in NY can’t be had anywhere else. The woods are calming. Even from the garage I can watch the deer frolic in the rain. We have white ibises here in Florida and the occasional rabbit outside the screens of the lanai.
But the pop up rainstorms are most annoying in NY. I like the deck in NY otherwise. Both places remind me often there is work to be done. I just can’t spend all my time smoking my pipes. But give me winter in Florida any time. I’ve bundled up in NY sitting in front of a space heater smoking my pipe. In that regard Florida wins by a mile. But summers in NY are the best.
Maybe once a summer the temps will reach ninety. Most of the time it is low to mid eighties. The house is half way up a mountain and it takes some skillful driving to get up and down the road to our house in NY. You not only have to avoid the deer but also the occasional bear. The woods are full of critters.
But generally summer Sundays in NY are the best. I usually don’t post twice in one day, but I sat in the quiet of our Florida morning thinking about going to NY for the summer months. I need to arrange shipments of tobacco for both places. I was thinking about my next tobacco order. I’ll figure it out. Just a few musings this afternoon as I smoke my Nording Number 2 pipe. Thank you for your time and Peace and Love to each one of you.
